You probably didn't watch Los Che's 3-1 victory, but you'll wish you had.
Valencia's 3-1 win over Sevilla on Sunday couldn't have been much more entertaining. The match featured a wild first half that gave us three penalties, three goals and a penalty save. The second half -- not quite as crazy as the opening 45 minutes, but still good -- featured a nice goal, and one of the best double saves you'll ever see. While the defense from both sides was pretty suspect, it was great fun. Isn't that what we're watching for?
The match also featured a rare occurrence, in that every single penalty decision was a legitimately good call by the referee. It's pretty uncommon in modern football for so many penalties to be called in one game, and for all of them to look like good calls. So kudos the the referee for that.
All in all, this was an awesome match. You should've watched. Heck, it might be an early candidate for match of the year in Spain from an entertainment perspective.
Here's why.
1. It looked like Carlos Bacca would bring Sevilla back even at 2-2 before the half, but Diego Alves had other ideas.
2. BETO. Diego Alves' PK save was nice, but this double save from Sevilla's goalkeeper was absurd. COMPLETELY AND WONDERFULLY ABSURD.
3. Daniel Parejo's second goal was lovely, with a fantastic lobbed assist from Enzo Pérez that caught the Sevilla defenders pushed way too far inside. Beto was furious with his defense, and rightfully so.
Was it good football? Well, maybe it wasn't the most composed and professional match ever -- both team's defenses were shambolic. But while that will give gray hairs to Nuno and Unai Emery, it was wonderfully entertaining for neutrals. Add in the performance of Los Che's supporters, who were ridiculously loud all match, and it was one of the best games of the season.
