West Virginia beats TCU after an outrageous final sequence

Four made shots in the final 10 seconds of overtime, a player carried off the court and a head coach going after the officiating crew; West Virginia-TCU had it all.

The most insane finish of Saturday took place in Morgantown, where an overtime period between West Virginia and TCU included the following: a crazy number of replay reviews, about three dozen (or just three) missed free-throws by the Horned Frogs, two shots described as the "game-winner" by the announcer, neither of which actually won the game, and then a pair of game-winning free-throws by a freshman with less than a second to play.

Here's the most important sequence of the game:

This all came after a clutch three by West Virginia's Daxter Miles Jr. had put the Mountaineers up 82-81, their first lead of the overtime period.

The dubious foul call 10 seconds later, which received a lengthy review to make sure it occurred with time still remaining on the clock, sent West Virginia freshman Jevon Carter to the stripe for two shots with 0.9 seconds left. The rookie guard promptly sunk both, and after a TCU heave was sent wayward, Carter was hoisted onto his teammate's shoulders and carried around the WVU Coliseum.

This, in case you were confused, is the same TCU team that entered today's game 1-4 in the Big 12, and which went just 2-34 in its first two seasons in the conference. The Horned Frogs were vying for their first road win over a ranked opponent since the late '90s.

But the fun doesn't end here.

During the West Virginia celebration, TCU head coach Trent Johnson sprinted towards the exiting officials and had to be restrained by an assistant.

Johnson was likely peeved not just by the call at the end of overtime, but by a non-call at the end of regulation which he had argued should have been whistled as a foul on West Virginia.

All in all it was a heartbreaking afternoon for TCU, which has now lost five of six since beginning the season 14-0.
