This started with a big check from one of the Penguins against Caps pest Tom Wilson. Wilson's teammate Michael Latta stepped in, and the ensuing scrum somehow ended up IN THE PITTSBURGH BENCH.
Blake Comeau and Steve Downie picked up penalties for the Penguins. Latta and Wilson picked up the penalties for Washington. You'd think going into the opponents bench would be worth something extra, but they were all just two minute roughing minors.
This all could have started in warmups, when Wilson gave Evgeni Malkin an ill-received shove at the red line. Via Russian Machine Never Breaks:
