Duke, Virginia among 2015 NCAA Tournament betting favorites

Duke and Virginia among top contenders looking to knock Kentucky off in the NCAA Tournament.

The Duke Blue Devils are 7-0 straight up and 4-3 against the spread over their last seven games. The Blue Devils will try to remain hot down the stretch with four games left in their regular season as they gear up for a run at the NCAA Tournament.

Duke is currently going off at 9/1 to win the NCAA Tournament at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. The team has seemingly rounded into form at the right time, bouncing back from a 3-3 SU stretch over its previous six games to string together seven straight wins, including a thriller against North Carolina at home. Duke's final game of the regular season is on the road against North Carolina; the Tar Heels are going off at 28/1 to win the title.

Virginia isn't going to pick up many style points with an 0-4-1 ATS record over its last five games and only 55.2 points per game on offense over that stretch. However, the Cavaliers won all five of those games thanks to the best defense in the nation allowing only 50.5 points per game this season. The defense is good enough to keep the Cavs in just about any game, and if Justin Anderson gets healthy in time for the tournament, Virginia could be a good value at 12/1.

Gonzaga passed its final road test of the season in a 70-60 win over St. Mary's, giving the team a 21-0 SU record over its last 21 games. The Bulldogs won 18 of those 21 games by double digits and rank 12th in the nation in total offense with 79.7 points per game. Some may write off Gonzaga for its soft schedule, but the Bulldogs certainly pass the eye test and look poised for a deep run at 14/1 on the odds to win the NCAA Tournament.

Of course, all teams are chasing the Kentucky Wildcats, who are off to the best start in school history at 27-0 SU. Kentucky is 3-0 ATS on the college basketball betting lines over its last three games with an average margin of victory of 29 points in those games. The Wildcats are an even money favorite at 1/1 to win the NCAA Tournament.

Other potential March Madness contenders include Wisconsin (8/1), Arizona (14/1), Villanova (16/1), Utah (25/1), Kansas (28/1), Notre Dame (28/1) and Iowa State (33/1).
