That's an effective way to replace Luke Shaw, huh?
Southampton found a pretty cost-effective way of filling their left back spot this summer, bringing in Ryan Bertrand on loan from Chelsea. He's been good since arriving, and the Saints have decided to throw down some money to sign him away from the Blues on a permanent basis.

There's no word yet on what kind of fee the Saints paid for Bertrand, but there's no way it was even close to half of the £30m they received for wonderkid Luke Shaw over the summer.
Bertrand was a promising youngster at Chelsea and even got some starts in Champions League during his time there, but didn't quite achieve the level required to be a first team regular at one of the top clubs on earth. St. Mary's is a pretty excellent landing spot, though.
Unfortunately, Bertrand won't get to make his debut as a true Southampton player for a few games. He was shown a red card in Southampton's last match and will be replaced by the man he's going to battle for playing time over the next four years, youngster Matt Targett.
