Ryan Mathews misses practice, fantasy status up in the air

Mathews is out of practice after hurting his leg on Sunday night. We break down the fantasy implications.

San Diego Chargers running back Ryan Mathews was held out of practice Wednesday. Mathews is dealing with a leg injury and should be considered questionable for Sunday's Week 15 game against the Denver Broncos.

Mathews injured his leg in last week's loss to the New England Patriots. He was having a solid game with 44 rushing yards on 11 carries, but sat out most of the second half. The oft-injured Mathews has played in only six games this season, rushing for 330 yards and three touchdowns on 74 carries. Donald Brown and Branden Oliver are next up on the depth chart if Mathews can't play.

Fantasy impact: Mathews has had another disappointing season, reaching 100 yards just once. Even if he's active, he'll be just a flex play against the Broncos defense. Oliver showed some promise early on, but faded down the depth chart when Mathews came back from his shoulder injury. Brown shouldn't be owned in any fantasy leagues. The Chargers' backfield is one to avoid during the fantasy semifinals.
