Fantasy football start/sit advice, Week 17: Raiders vs. Broncos

The Broncos need to get their offense going again before the playoffs.

The Denver Broncos are headed for the playoffs, but their recent games have sparked some fear for their Super Bowl prospects. That, and the outside chance they could miss out on a playoff bye, are why they will be looking to get things going Sunday, when they finish their regular season against the last-place Oakland Raiders.

Oakland quarterback Derek Carr popped up on the week's injury report with an illness, though he's expected to be fine for Sunday. The Broncos, meanwhile, have half their team on the injury report. Quarterback Peyton Manning, running backs C.J. Anderson, Juwan Thompson and Ronnie Hillman, wide receivers Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders and tight end Julius Thomas are all listed on the report. Sanders is the biggest question mark, though the entire scroll of names should be active -- at least, unless/until the Broncos get a comfortable lead in the game.

The Broncos will host the Raiders on Sunday, with the game scheduled for 4:25 p.m. ET. Let's take a look at the fantasy names to consider:

RAIDERS

Start 'em?: Since returning from his concussion, Latavius Murray has been productive, with 23 fantasy points in three games. The Broncos are strong against the run, so he's not much beyond a flex play. ... Both James Jones and Andre Holmes have played well the last couple weeks. Both are super-risky flex options, but there's some upside. ... As the Raiders have improved down the stretch, Sebastian Janikowski has upped his production as well.

Sit 'em: The rookie is closing the season on a good streak, though personally I couldn't trust Derek Carr in any but the deepest fantasy leagues. ... Mychal Rivera 's hot streak has cooled. The Broncos aren't great against tight ends, but he's still a stay-away. ... You certainly aren't using the Raiders' defense.

BRONCOS

Start 'em: Look, no one knows for sure what's happened to the Denver offense of late. You're using Peyton Manning, C.J. Anderson, Demaryius Thomas, Emmanuel Sanders and Julius Thomas and hoping for the best. ... Connor Barth didn't do much last week, but in general he's still a strong option behind that offense. ... The Broncos' defense has been decent, and faces a sub-par offense in the Raiders.

Sit 'em: The return of Ronnie Hillman is a bigger threat to Juwan Thompson's touches than Anderson's, but neither of Anderson's backups is much help for fantasy. ... Wes Welker hasn't done much all year.

SUMMARY

Start in every league: Peyton Manning, C.J. Anderson, Demaryius Thomas, Emmanuel Sanders, Julius Thomas, Connor Barth, Denver defense

Start if you're desperate: Latavius Murray, James Jones, Andre Holmes, Sebastian Janikowski

Bench: Derek Carr, Mychal Rivera, Oakland defense, Ronnie Hillman, Juwan Thompson, Wes Welker
