Luis Robles quietly put together a solid season for the New York Red Bulls. The goalkeeper made a habit of making rather impressive saves behind a defense that was sometimes a bit leaky. It's fitting that he would win Save of the Year based on his body of work, but the double save that actually won him the honor stands firmly on its own.
Both saves he makes here are pretty impressive, it should be said. The first one, on Marco Pappa, deflects off a defender and forces Robles to change directions. He's not able to do much but keep it out of the net, leaving an enticing rebound for one of Obafemi Martins or Clint Dempsey to easily put away. But Robles then does the seemingly impossible: With no time to react, he manages to make a full stretch to keep Dempsey's nearly point-blank header out. Impressive stuff.
