Huge defensive tackle recruit Mike Williams is big on Oklahoma, Texas

Some big programs are angling for this Texas defensive tackle.

Mike Williams is not even 17 yet, but he's already 6'2 and tips the scales at 280 pounds. The Fort Worth (Texas) All Saints Episcopal product is garnering plenty of attention, and is rated as a four-star prospect by 247 Sports and Scout and a three-star by Rivals and ESPN. He stopped to talk with SB Nation Recruiting's Wescott Eberts at the Nike Opening Regional in Dallas, and talked about how things are progressing for him in the recruiting process.

Oklahoma and Texas

The Sooners and Longhorns came up first and foremost when Williams discussed his upcoming visits. "Most recently was Oklahoma, but I’m looking forward to getting to Texas real soon. I went to camp under the lights last year (at Texas)," he said.

When asked about how he liked his experience in Austin, Williams was positive: "It was good, they had a whole bunch of talent there. Coach Rumph (former Texas defensive line coach, now at Florida) had the thing going, it was fun." He said he has not met Brick Haley, the new defensive line coach, but he will soon.

When asked about the racist chant video from an Oklahoma fraternity, Williams didn't seem phased: "That’s not going to influence my decision, it’s just a few knuckleheads everywhere, that shouldn’t determine a group of people."

Williams said that Oklahoma State and Colorado State were the two schools that were probably recruiting him the hardest, and he said that he liked the calm atmosphere in Stillwater.

Visits and timeline

Williams is planning on going to visit Stanford and Cal this summer, and is planning on a trip to LSU as well. He said he'd like to hear from Florida State, too, but that was it.

He said he would like to make a decision and commit before the season starts this fall.
