Star running back recruit Brandon Stephens felt sense of family on Texas visit

Brandon Stephens is one of the stronger running backs in Texas.

Brandon Stephens is one of the better running back recruits in the state of Texas. At a solid 6'1 and 200 pounds, he claims offers from Florida, Ohio State, Texas, Stanford and Washington, among others. Stephens is a three-star recruit on the 247Sports Composite rankings.

SB Nation's Wescott Eberts caught up with Stephens Sunday at the Dallas Nike Opening Football Regional Camp.

Stephens recently made his first visit to see the Texas Longhorns and came away impressed.

"Texas has a great coaching staff," he said. "It's everything that you look for in a college."

Texas' family feel really stood out to Stephens.

"It's one big family at Texas. Everybody has each others back," Stephens said. "I got to talk to some players who went to my high school, and the coaching staff was on the same page."

Stephens was not ready to name a leader or a group of top schools.

"It's still early in the process and I haven't made any top lists," he said, but hopes to narrow them down soon.

Stephens also noted that he keeps up with the Ohio State coaching staff on twitter "every once in a while." He visited the Buckeyes in the summer of 2014.

As for the school recruiting him the hardest?

"It's probably Washington," Stephens said. Stephens would like to go see the Huskies on a visit.

His major factors in picking a school will be academics and football, a combination that Stanford is pitching.

"Football won't last, so I have to have a backup plan," Stephens said. "Stanford is one of the best academic schools, so that's something to consider for them."

Stephens rushed 196 times for 1268 yards and 21 scores as a junior. He does not plan to make a decision until he is able to take more visits and learn more about the schools he is considering.
