The way things have gone lately, you'd think St. Louis would be the team in better shape coming into Week 15.
The St. Louis Rams have won three of their last four games. The Arizona Cardinals have lost two of three. The Cardinals have lost their starting quarterback and starting running back for the season, while the Rams are much more healthy. Thursday, when the two teams play one another, the Rams get to be the home team. You'd think it would be the Rams gearing up for a playoff spot. But the Rams are only 6-7, and the Cardinals are 10-3 and coming off a win, looking for maybe only one more win to lock up a postseason berth.
Arizona quarterback Drew Stanton and wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald are both on the week's injury report, though both are expected to be fine for the game. The Rams come into Thursday largely healthy.
The Rams will play host Thursday night, with the game scheduled for 8:25 p.m. ET. Let's look at the fantasy names to consider:
CARDINALS
Start 'em: The Cardinals' defense is one of the league's best, and for all the strong production the Rams have enjoyed of late, it isn't a strong offense.
Start 'em?: With Andre Ellington done for the year, Kerwynn Williams sprang from out of nowhere to run for 100 yards a week ago. You know exactly how desperate you'd have to be to use Williams, but if things are rough, he's at least likely to get the touches. ... Chandler Catanzaro has his best game in eight weeks in Week 14; you'd like more production, but in a pinch, he isn't bad.
Sit 'em: Since taking over the starting quarterback job from Carson Palmer, Drew Stanton has averaged only 12 fantasy points a game over four games. That's not usable in any sort of game. ... Williams' appearance renders Stepfan Taylor and Marion Grice hard to rely on. ... The Cardinals' receivers -- Larry Fitzgerald , Michael Floyd , John Brown , Jaron Brown -- are a good foursome, and if you could start "Arizona WR that does the best," that's not a bad way to go at all. Too bad you can't do that. ... John Carlson has had three or fewer fantasy points 11 times in 13 games.
RAMS
Start 'em: Other than Week 13, Tre Mason has been fairly under the radar as a fantasy option, but he's scored six or more fantasy points in six straight games. He's a good RB2. ... After a rough start to the season, the Rams' defense has been super elite lately, and is a must-start now.
Sit 'em: Despite winning three of four, Shaun Hill hasn't exactly lit it up in fantasy, with only 13.5 fantasy points a game. ... The emergence of Mason renders Zac Stacy completely unusable, and Benny Cunningham basically the same. ... The Rams' pass-catchers have taken turns being the best performer. Wide receivers Tavon Austin , Kenny Britt and Stedman Bailey and tight end Jared Cook are all super-deep options, but not much better than that. ... There have been far more bad Greg Zuerlein games than good.
SUMMARY
Start in every league: Arizona defense, Tre Mason, St. Louis defense
Start if you're desperate: Kerwynn Williams, Chandler Catanzaro
