Gary Payton II joins Gary Payton as only Oregon State players to ever record triple doubles

Two Oregon State Beavers have recorded triple doubles: Gary Payton and Gary Payton II.

Gary Payton II had 10 points, 12 rebounds, and 10 assists in Oregon State's 71-43 romp over Grambling, making him the second player in Oregon State history to record a triple-double. The first? Yup:

For pops, the rebounds was the hard part: the elder Gary only recorded more than 10 rebounds once in his OSU career, on Nov. 29, 1988, when he had 20 points, 14 assists, and 10 boards against Portland. For Gary II, it was the assists: Even though the junior college transfer is only 6'3, he leads the Beavers in both scoring and rebounding with 13.9 and 9.4 per game. Four assists was his season high tonight -- perhaps he and his teammates were conscious of the history they could make, especially considering they were playing against literally the worst team in college basketball.
