Tall, athletic football recruit Donte Coleman looking for right system

Coleman is looking for a program that can play to his strengths.

Donte Coleman is part of a new breed of tight ends who work perfectly in a spread offense. At 6'4, 219 pounds, Coleman can move like a wide receiver but has the size of a tight end. The Mesquite (Texas) West Mesquite star is a three-star recruit according to 247 Sports and Scout, and he stopped by with SB Nation's Wescott Eberts at the Nike Opening Regional in Dallas to talk about his recruitment.

Looking for the right fit

Coleman said that five offers are standing out to him right now in TCU, Oklahoma State, Boise State, Arizona State, and Texas Tech. The one thing that they all have in common are offensive schemes that would fit his style. On TCU specifically: "I like the system, the offense, they can put up points. I can contribute to the offense. I'd basically would be playing same position I’m doing now, flex tight end and lining up in the slot, basically anywhere."

He said he would like to play in a system where he can play like more of a WR, since he was a receiver at first and can do everything a receiver can do and create matchup problems.

As for a team that he would still like to hear from, Coleman quickly said Michigan. "Coach Jim Harbaugh can do a lot of good things with tight end, he did a lot with tight ends at Stanford."

Visits and timeline

Coleman visited Texas Tech last weekend, and said he was impressed with their set up and how they were getting after it in spring practice. He's scheduled to visit TCU in April and said he wants to get to Oklahoma State at some point this spring.

He said he doesn't have a definite timetable for picking a school, and that it was much more important to find the right fit.
