The 49ers backfield is looking thin after Week 16. We break down the fantasy implications.
Carlos Hyde and Frank Gore were both forced to exit Sunday's game against the Seattle Seahawks. Hyde suffered an ankle injury late in the fourth quarter, while Gore was forced out of the game with a concussion he sustained attempting to throw a block in the second quarter.
Alfonso Smith received four carries and rushed for just 6 yards with the San Francisco 49ers backfield ailing. Bruce Miller also saw an expanded role, leading the team with four receptions for 56 yards.
Fantasy impact: It's difficult to say what the 49ers backfield will look like when Week 16 kicks off. Gore's concussion drew attention from players on both teams as the vicious hit kept him down on the field. Hyde's ankle injury looked bad when it happened, but he left the field on his own power and the game was nearly over at that point.
If neither running back can go next week, Smith would presumably start. Miller likely holds more fantasy value, though, since his receiving skills open up the potential for bigger plays. Neither player would be worth starting.
