Fantasy football waiver wire, Week 16: Nate Washington has become an interesting desperation play

Nate Washington stepped up in the absence of Kendall Wright. We take a look at his fantasy value moving forward.

In what was generally an odd week in the NFL, Nate Washington emerged with some impressive numbers on Sunday. Washington saw a team-high 10 targets, catching six passes for 102 yards against the New York Jets.

The numbers really aren't deceiving here. Quarterback Jake Locker targeted Washington twice before exiting the game with a shoulder injury. The remaining eight targets all came from Charlie Whitehurst, who will likely finish the season as the Tennessee Titans quarterback. Washington and the Titans will face the Jacksonville Jaguars Thursday night.

Fantasy football: While he's far from a WR1 or even a WR2, Washington is shaping up to be a bit of a late bloomer for fantasy purposes. Historically, Washington hasn't been a sustainable option for fantasy owners, but he's an intriguing WR3 option if Kendall Wright can't stay on the field. Even if Wright does return, the Titans have an offense that's fluky enough where Washington may hang onto some trust from Whitehurst.

It's worth noting that Whitehurst favored Wright when starting Weeks 4 through 7. However, if Wright isn't 100 percent, Washington is proving he can contribute down the stretch. Keep an eye on Wright's progress and grab Washington if you're in dire need at wide receiver in your fantasy playoffs.
