Fantasy football waiver wire, Week 16: Sammy Watkins falls flat

For the fifth time in six games, the Buffalo rookie couldn't get going. We break down the fantasy implications.

Buffalo Bills rookie wide receiver Sammy Watkins had a hot stretch earlier in the season, but his production has completely fallen off in recent weeks. Watkins caught only one pass Sunday in the Bills' 21-13 win over the Green Bay Packers.

Watkins' one catch (on six targets) went for 28 yards Sunday. Even that paltry total was good for the second-most receiving yards on the team, as running back Bryce Brown caught a single pass for 40 yards. That makes five times in the last six games with three or fewer fantasy points for Watkins, broken up by 127 yards (and a fumble) in Week 14.

Fantasy impact: Early in the season, Watkins' production was sporadic -- he'd follow a good game with a bad, and vice versa. Of late, though, his numbers have been bad far more often than they've been good.

Week 16 is a nice-looking matchup for Watkins and the Bills, as they travel to Oakland to play the Raiders. Still, with his struggles of late, it's hard to trust Watkins as anything more than a WR3/flex play with some upside, if that. He's no one you're looking to drop, but it would be a defensible one if situations at other positions are getting tight.
