The Australian is now a free agent.
Tim Cahill's time in Major League Soccer is over. The Australian and the New York Red Bulls have mutually agreed to end their contract, allowing Cahill to become a free agent and sign wherever he would like.
As of now, there are no especially good rumors on where Cahill might go. There have been links to China, where he could get a big payday, while some people have suggested he could find a home in the Premier League, but that was just guessing. Some people have proposed he sign with a team in the A-League, but there are no links indicating that might happen as of yet.
Cahill joined the Red Bulls in the summer of 2012 and scored 14 goals to go along with 10 assists in his two-and-a-half seasons with the club. The Australian had a great 2013 season, earning MLS Best XI honors, but struggled in 2014 and wasn't a sure-fire starter by the end of the campaign. With the Red Bulls cutting their wage bill, it seemed like a good bet that Cahill would leave the club, and he's done just that.
Cahill is coming off of a tremendous Asian Cup for his country. He scored three goals for the Socceroos en route to the continental title on home soil. He also scored a pair of goals at last summer's World Cup.
