No. 1 Kentucky looks to take another step towards perfection against No. 5 West Virginia on Thursday in the Sweet 16.
The No. 1 Kentucky Wildcats are 11-0 SU and 8-2-1 ATS in their last 11 games as a double-digit favorite. For the seventh straight game, Kentucky will be a double-digit favorite this Thursday against the No. 5 West Virginia Mountaineers at Quicken Loans Arena.
Kentucky is a 13-point favorite over West Virginia according to sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. The undefeated Wildcats are the biggest favorite on the board this week in the Sweet 16.
Despite shooting just three for 18 from the field to start its game against No. 8 Cincinnati, the Wildcats still eventually pulled away with a double-digit 64-51 win over the Bearcats. The win showed once again why Kentucky will be so tough for anyone to beat; even when the offense isn't clicking, the nation's second best defense will always keep the Wildcats in the game. Dating back to 1996, Kentucky is 10-2 SU and 9-3 ATS in a dozen Sweet 16 matchups.
While many of the teams that went dancing from the Big 12 were handed early exits from the tournament, West Virginia has played well with a 2-0 SU and ATS record in wins over Buffalo and Maryland. Since suffering through a 1-3 SU and 0-4 ATS slump back at the start of February, the Mountaineers are 6-3 SU and 7-2 ATS over their last nine games. West Virginia is 4-1 ATS in its last five games in the Sweet 16 and 9-2 ATS in its last 11 games as an underdog in the NCAA Tournament.
The UNDER is 6-3-1 in West Virginia's last 10 March Madness games and 4-2 in Kentucky's last six games overall. Thursday's total is set at 136.5 points at the sportsbooks.
No. 5 seeds are just 6-19 in 25 games against No. 1 seeds since 1996 but are 2-1 SU in the last three No. 1 vs. No. 5 matchups. Kentucky has won 11 of its last 12 games by double-digits and it will likely take a near-perfect game from West Virginia to upset the 36-0 SU juggernauts.
