Jonathan Holmes' three-pointer lifts Texas over UConn at the buzzer

Texas moved to 6-0 with a victory in Storrs.

A non-conference opponent hadn't come into Storrs to defeat UConn since 1993, but Texas' Jonathan Holmes made sure to end that streak on Sunday. Trailing by two with four seconds left, Holmes found himself unguarded from the corner and hit a leaning three-pointer to give the Longhorns a 55-54 victory:

UConn did well to limit Texas' imposing front court trio of Holmes, Cameron Ridley and Myles Turner most of the night. Holmes finished with 13 points and eight rebounds, but shot only 4-of-13 from the field. Every make was a three-pointer. Ridley (five points) and Turner (seven points and five blocks) combined to shoot 2-of-7 from the floor.

The Huskies were in control for most of the second half thanks to a terrific game from senior guard Ryan Boatright. In a game where both offenses struggled to get things going while missing key contributors due to injury, Boatright was the only constant offensively. He finished with 24 points, seven rebounds and two steals, but suffered a scary ankle injury as the game ended.

Texas was without star guard Isaiah Taylor, while UConn played without starting shooting guard Rodney Purvis and wing Omar Calhoun. The win keeps Texas undefeated at 6-0 ahead of its meeting with Kentucky on Dec. 5. UConn falls to 4-2.
