NFL injury report: Frank Gore, T.Y. Hilton awaiting further test results

Sunday's NFL action featured a number of key injuries that affected both the NFL landscape and playoff fates for fantasy football owners across the nation. Here is SB Nation Medical Expert Dr. Ali Mohamadi's Monday morning injury update from the week so far:

It will be an uneasy day for Indianapolis Colts fans, as they await word on MRI results for receiver T.Y. Hilton, who injured his left hamstring during Sunday's division-winning victory over Houston. Hilton spent the waning moments of the contest on the sideline with an ice wrap on the hamstring. He seemed confident that it was a minor setback, pain and inflammation tends to increase over the 24-48 hours following a hamstring strain. Although the Colts have wrapped up the AFC South, they are playing for playoff seeding, with a chance for a first-round bye if they can leapfrog either the New England Patriots or Denver Broncos in the standings. The team should have the findings of the MRI available later on Monday, which will be of great interest to Colts fans and fantasy owners alike.

Frank Gore provided the only scoring for the San Francisco 49ers during their loss to the Seahawks, but his excitement was short-lived, as he left in the second quarter with a concussion. Gore will go through the league's mandated concussion protocol this week. There should be a good sense of his playing status by midweek. It bears noting that the 49ers are facing a short work week, with their next contest coming up on Saturday against the Chargers. If Gore is unable to pass concussion testing by then, rookie Carlos Hyde will be the main beneficiary in the 49ers rushing attack.

New York Giants running back Rashad Jennings aggravated an ankle injury early in his team's 24-13 win over Washington and saw limited action as a result. This is two consecutive weeks that rookie Andre Williams has seen the lion's share of carries in the Giants' backfield, and given that Jennings has come up gimpy in both of those contests, it wouldn't be a surprise if he gets little practice time this week, placing his status in doubt for next week's contest with the St. Louis Rams.

The Chargers ceded the AFC West title to Denver Sunday and may have also lost top wide receiver Keenan Allen during the game to an ankle injury. Allen was carted off the field after being tended to on the sidelines by the San Diego training staff. The team has not provided any updates regarding the injury, but it would stand to reason Allen will undergo testing Monday to determine the extent of the injury and his prognosis for Saturday's contest with San Francisco, which will have major playoff implications for the Chargers.
