Juventus cast their eye to Henrikh Mkhitaryan

With hopes for a move for Wesley Sneijder unraveling, the Italian champions have turned their eye to Germany

Juventus have made a handful of efforts to get their hands on Galatasaray midfielder Wesley Sneijder as Max Allegri looks to re-shape how his midfield operates. That deal keeps falling apart as soon as it starts to come together though, apparently thanks to a preference from Sneijder to join Manchester United, so Juventus are looking elsewhere to bolster their midfield.

Enter Henrikh Mkhitaryan, star midfielder of struggling German side Borussia Dortmund. The versatile Armenian international can play basically anywhere in midfield you ask him to, be it central or out wide, and not miss a beat, and his excellent passing acumen would fit what Allegri seems to be looking for. Sneijder is still the dream target, but that's looking more unlikely by the hour.

Sayeth The Guardian:

...but with the Old Lady of Italy having cooled her interest in [Sneijder] and decided she prefers Borussia Dortmund’s Armenian No10 Henrikh Mkhitaryan instead, Louis van Gaal hopes to secure the services of Sneijder, who has made little secret of his desire to leave Turkey.

United have also been linked to Mkhitaryan in the past, but not as much so lately as their focus has been on Sneijder. Mkhitaryan would be an excellent fit for Juventus, helping them complete their transition to Allegri's desired tactics this year, and helping lead them past the Andrea Pirlo era once the venerable regista ultimately retires. Mkhitaryan does reportedly want out amid Dortmund's season-long tailspin, and going from a relegation-threatened side to one looking destined for a fourth straight league title would certainly be an upgrade. If the fee is reasonable, this is a deal that could move quickly if it starts to unfold.
