The Rockets' point guard will make a decision on his injured wrist on Wednesday morning.
The injury-riddled Rockets may soon absorb another huge blow just as they welcome back Dwight Howard from the sidelines. Point guard Patrick Beverley will go for a check-up on his injured wrist Wednesday morning and it's possible he will have season-ending surgery, according to Yahoo! Sports' Marc Spears.
The Rockets and Beverley will decide if he can play on the injured wrist or if there's too much of a risk for further ligament damage, Spears reported. But Rockets coach Kevin McHale is concerned:
"If the news is bad on Pat, he might be out awhile," McHale said Tuesday, via the Houston Chronicle. "We will find out the news on Pat, but the initial thought was that it might be bad. Hopefully it will be good news."
Beverley left the Rockets' game against the Pacers on Monday midway through the third quarter. He's been battling through a right elbow injury all year, but it's not clear if that's related.
This is the second straight year that Beverley must make a decision on a late-season injury. He suffered a partially-torn meniscus last March 28, but elected to avoid surgery and returned to the lineup soon thereafter.
Beverley continues to be a solid fit next to James Harden, providing excellent defense and decent three-point shooting. His shooting percentages are down this year, but it's hard to fully quantify his defensive value. If he cannot play, the Rockets must rely on veterans Jason Terry and Pablo Prigioni to hold down the fort.
