Wide receiver Stevie Johnson has signed with the San Diego Chargers, according to Ian Rapoport. Johnson's deal is for three years and an unknown amount of money, per Adam Schefter. After playing only one season for the San Francisco 49ers, Johnson was released after refusing to take a pay cut.
Johnson, 28, is a six-year veteran and spent his first five years with the Buffalo Bills. Originally a seventh-round pick out of the University of Kentucky in 2008, Johnson came into his own in 2010. That season, Johnson began a string of three consecutive 1,000-yard seasons, highlighted by 1,073 yards and 10 touchdowns in his third year.
The Chargers were in need of a receiver after losing Eddie Royal to the Chicago Bears. Johnson will play third-fiddle in the receiving corps with San Diego, slotting in behind Malcom Floyd and Keenan Allen.
In 2013, Johnson had a tough year in Buffalo with only 52 catches for 597 yards. After being traded to San Francisco, Johnson was a third option behind Michael Crabtree and Anquan Boldin. Colin Kaepernick rarely found him, registering 35 receptions and 435 yards, his lowest totals since 2009 when he dressed for just five games.
