For the first time in his career, Daniel Bryan has won the Intercontinental Championship, completing WWE's grand slam. He's now won every single title in the company.
Bad News Barrett was the champion coming into this match, but he hasn't had the belt much. Since WWE Fastlane, the IC title storyline has centered around the participants in this match trying to steal it from him, often tricking him into looking away while they take it, or giving him a fake belt. As soon as Barrett reclaimed it, Director of Operations Kane took it away from him, since it has to be hung from the rafters for this ladder match.
The performers set the stage for what the match was going to be like early, with flips over the top rope onto the competitors outside the ring for all, culminating in a huge elbow off a 20-foot ladder by Dean Ambrose.
Even though there were 12 ladders set out around the ring, Stardust had his own, encrusted with sparkly rhinestones. He never got to use it to climb towards the title, and the rhinestones went flying off when Ambrose blasted Luke Harper with it.
Stardust had the first real great shot at climbing for the title, but got stuffed by Wade Barrett, who then proceeded to superplex him off the top. Bryan and Dolph Ziggler tried their luck shortly afterwards, but Ambrose pushed them off the top. For his efforts, Ambrose later got powerbombed through ladders by Harper.
It looked like Barrett was going to capitalize, as he hit bullhammer elbows on R-Truth, Harper and Ziggler. Bryan stopped him, but was thrown off the ladder, then hit Barrett with a flying knee. That left Bryan and Ziggler to fight for the title on top of the ladder
They traded blows with their hands on the belt, including a series of headbutts. Bryan came out on top, knocking Ziggler off the top, and ripped down the strap to win his first Intercontinental Championship.
