Boston Marathon 2015 results: Caroline Rotich captures first victory

Kenya's Caroline Rotich earned her first ever victory at the Boston Marathon with a last-minute sprint to win by just four seconds.

Caroline Rotich won the women's race at the Boston Marathon with an official time of 2:24:55. It was the 119th running of the race, with more than 30,000 runners participating. This victory is Rotich's first ever, with her previous best finish being fourth place in 2011.

It certainly was an exciting conclusion to the race, with Rotich sprinting down the final stretch of Boylston Street to win by just four seconds. That bested Ethiopians Mare Dibaba and Buzunesh Deba in the final stretch. American Desiree Linden finished the race in fourth place.

Dibaba actually had a significant lead in the final minute, but Rotich's sprint in the final 200m sealed the deal, making up the gap and earning first place. Dibaba was in the lead for much of the final five kilometers of the race, doing her best work in the hilly, more difficult areas.

The men's portion of the race was won by Lelisa Desisa of Ethiopa, the second time he's won the race. His other victory was in 2013.
