Boston Marathon results 2015: Lelisa Desisa wins second title

Desisa edged another Ethiopian for his second Boston Marathon victory.

The man who won the 2013 Boston Marathon that was marred by a bombing at the finish line earned a second title in the marathon, winning the race on Monday and beating his time from two years ago by a little more than a minute.

Lelisa Desisa, 25, won the 2015 Boston Marathon with a time of 2:09:17, besting his 2013 winning time of 2:10:22. The Ethiopian runner made his professional debut in the marathon distance in 2013 and earned a silver medal in the 2013 World Championships in Moscow. Desisa was an Olympic reserve for Ethiopa in 2012 for the 10,000 meter race, but did not compete.

Desisa was not injured in the bombings at the finish line of the 2013 Boston Marathon that exploded a few hours after he finished his run.

Another Ethiopian runner, Yemane Adhane Tsegay, finished second in the race on Monday, 31 seconds behind Desisa. Dathan Rizenhien of Grand Rapids, Mich. was the first American to cross the finish line with a time of 2:11:20 that earned him a seventh-place finish.

Last year's winner, Meb Keflezighi, who came to the United States in 1987 as a refugee from Eritrea and is now an American citizen, finished eighth. The full top 10 can be found here.

The finish in the women's race was much closer, where Caroline Rotich of Kenya pulled off a come-from-behind victory in the last minute to win by four seconds.
