Even though they have some needs remaining on defense, Indianapolis goes after an offensive weapon in the second round.
After landing defensive tackle Eddie Goldman in the first round of this mock draft, the Colts still have some needs on defense. But the offense is far from perfect, and there are options available for Stephen Reed and Stampede Blue.
61. Colts: Tevin Coleman, RB, Indiana

Reed: After addressing the defensive line in Round 1 and patching various holes in free agency, the Colts have the luxury of taking the cliched best player available. While many fans may point to several other "need" areas, i.e. defensive back or inside linebacker, with the way the board fell, the value of Coleman at pick 61 is too much.
Taking a running back may not seem like the obvious choice, but it's the right one for the future. Coleman is a physical runner between the tackles and is very tough, as in it's reported he played the majority of last year with a broken foot. Even Chuck Norris would agree this guy is tough.
Coleman has a fantastic jump-cut to leave linebackers bewildered and grasping at air. He's got great balance and quickness, plus he hits top speed in a hurry. In all honesty, the Colts haven't had a big-play style running back since possibly Edgerrin James, and calling Edge a "home run threat" is pushing it. For example, the Colts' running backs in the past three years had three total rushes over 30 yards, and only one over 50 yards. In comparison, in last year alone and with a broken foot, Coleman had 16 rushes over 30 yards and eight runs over 60 yards! And don't forget, Coleman did this with defenses crowding the box specifically to stop him, since the Hoosiers aren't known for their quarterback play or really playing football in general. He is adept at catching the ball out of the backfield, which is vital for a Colts running back under Pep Hamilton.
The Colts' front office and coaching staff always talk about "horseshoe guys." Coleman is a thoroughbred, and would be a wise selection by the team as a potential star running back to pair with Andrew Luck for the foreseeable future.
Dan Kadar, SBNation.com: This is an interesting choice. Although Coleman can be considered the best player available, it is at a position with depth. For instance, the Colts could pass a running back here and get a player like T.J. Yeldon or Mike Davis at least a round later. Conversely, a cornerback like Alex Carter of Stanford is out there and has starter potential.
