Indians pitcher Carlos Carrasco leaves after being struck in the face by a line drive

Carrasco left the field conscious and alert after being hit on the left side of his face.

Cleveland Indians starting pitcher Carlos Carrasco was carted off the field in the top of the first inning after being hit in the face with a line drive on Tuesday evening.

The liner, which was hit by Chicago White Sox outfielder Melky Cabrera, appeared to glance off either Carrasco's glove or his pitching hand before hitting the left side of his face. Carrasco was conscious and alert while leaving the playing field.

Carrasco was just two batters into his second start of the season when the injury occurred. The 28-year-old right-hander held the Houston Astros to just three hits and a walk in 6⅓ scoreless innings in his 2015 debut on April 8. Carrasco struck out 10 batters in that contest. Going back to the beginning of last September, Carrasco whiffed 10 or more batters in four of seven starts entering Tuesday.

Zach McAllister entered the game in relief of Carrasco and allowed both inherited runners to score. Carrasco was charged with two runs -- both earned -- on two hits and didn't record an out.
