James Harden will try to finish through any contact, so you can understand why Matt Barnes did this. The whistle already blew and he wanted to make sure he fouled Harden so he couldn't score. Coaches tell (or at least used to tell) players to do this if they knew a foul was committed.
Still, Barnes could have done without the tackle at the end. At least he prevented Harden from picking up a first down on the run.
Barnes escaped with only a Flagrant 1, a mild surprise given his reputation. ABC's announcers all were bracing for a Flagrant 2 and an ejection.
