5-star big man Ivan Rabb commits to California

The Golden Bears just added one of the most talented players in the country.

California has just landed its biggest basketball recruit in years. Ivan Rabb, a five-star prospect and one of the best players in the Class of 2015, has committed to play for Cuonzo Martin and the Golden Bears.

Rabb, 18, is rated as the best player in California, best power forward in the country and No. 6 player overall in the class by the 247 Composite. His finalists also included Arizona, Georgetown, Duke and Connecticut, but he's ultimately decided to stay in his home state and play for a less heralded program.

A McDonald's All-American as a senior at Bishop O'Dowd High School, Rabb figures to be a major factor for the Golden Bears immediately next season. ESPN calls him "one of the most athletic players in the class of 2015" and a potential difference-maker on both sides of the court.

Measuring at 6'11 and 210 pounds, Rabb also needs to add to his frame before taking his game to the next level. It's possible he's a one-and-done who heads to the NBA following his freshman season, though, so expect Martin to do his best to thrive while he has one of the most talented players California has ever recruited.

Rabb joins three-star recruit Davon Dillard, a 6'5 shooting guard out of New York, as the only players in the Class of 2015 to commit to California. During the 2014-15 season -- Martin's first in Berkeley -- the Golden Bears posted a 18-15 record. The team last reached the NCAA Tournament in 2013 under coach Mike Montgomery, who retired in 2014.
