Kyle Larson medically cleared to resume NASCAR competition

Larson will be back on the track when NASCAR returns next week at Texas.

Kyle Larson will resume driving the No. 42 car when the Sprint Cup Series returns after its first off week of the season April 11 at Texas Motor Speedway.

Larson was medically cleared to return to competition Thursday after a fainting spell during an autograph session Saturday afternoon. The 22-year-old was hospitalized and missed Sunday's race at Martinsville Speedway. While in the hospital Larson underwent a battery of neurological and cardiac tests before being released Monday night.

Chip Ganassi Racing named Regan Smith to drive Larson's car at Martinsville. Smith finished 16th in relief.

"Following a thorough review of all the test results by his attending physicians and in conjunction with the medical staff from NASCAR, Kyle Larson has been medically cleared to return to all NASCAR related activities beginning at Texas Motor Speedway next weekend," CGR said.

NASCAR's three national series are off this weekend in observance of the Easter holiday.
