Sammy Watkins underwent offseason hip surgery, per report

The star receiver had surgery to repair an injury suffered on November 30, 2014.

The first wide receiver selected in the 2014 NFL Draft struggled in his first season with a hip injury that limited his production down the stretch. According to a report from ESPN's Josina Anderson, the Buffalo Bills' Sammy Watkins underwent surgery on his hip earlier this offseason.

Watkins was one of several rookie wideouts that led their teams in receiving in 2014, emerging as the team's top target by the second week of the year. The production came after a preseason that saw the receiver miss time with a rib injury.

Watkins apparently suffered this new injury during the Bills' November 30 game against the Cleveland Browns. Though it eventually required surgery, Watkins played well through it, recording seven catches for 127 yards just one week later.

While a recovery timetable has not been revealed, the injury is unlikely to keep Watkins out for training camp or the preseason. The Bills begin their offseason programs on April 6 with OTA workouts starting on May 26.
