Jets interested in reunion with Darrelle Revis

After trading Revis to the Buccaneers two years ago, the Jets are hoping to win him back.

The New York Jets have $50 million in cap space, two holes at cornerback and a desire to fill one of them with All-Pro Darrelle Revis, according to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News. Revis is coming off a stellar campaign in which he helped lead the New England Patriots to a Super Bowl championship, but becomes a free agent if the Patriots do not exercise his $20 million option by March 9.

New England is dealing with cap problems even without Revis' number, sitting at $11.28 million over the limit. With safety Devin McCourty also hitting free agency, the Patriots may have to decide which player to pursue. Should Revis hit the market, New York plans to be active. Owner Woody Johnson has been having internal conversations with general manager Mike Maccagnan about bringing Revis back into the fold, helping the team adjust under new head coach Todd Bowles.

Bowles, who was with the Arizona Cardinals last year as the defensive coordinator, plays a very aggressive style. Much like Rex Ryan, Bowles believes in bringing ample pressure while leaving his corners on an island. Over the last two years, nobody blitzed more than Bowles at 47 percent. With that in mind, both Antonio Cromartie and Revis would be terrific fits after thriving in Ryan's system. Cromartie also has ties to Bowles, having played in Arizona last year.

Revis spent six years with the Jets after being taken out of the University of Pittsburgh with the 14th overall pick of the 2007 NFL Draft, before being dealt away to Tampa Bay in 2013 following a torn ACL. In that time with the Jets, Revis amassed 19 interceptions, four Pro Bowls and three first-team All-Pro designations.
