Kyle Larson taken to hospital after fainting

The 22-year-old driver was signing autographs when he collapsed Saturday afternoon.

Kyle Larson was transported to an area hospital after fainting Saturday at Martinsville Speedway.

Larson was taking part in an afternoon autograph session when he collapsed, according to Fox Sports, which first reported the news. The 22-year-old driver for Chip Ganassi Racing was taken to a hospital for precautionary reasons and to undergo a further evaluation. He is awake and alert and plans to race in Sunday's STP 500, though NASCAR would need to medically clear him.

Larson, the 2014 Sprint Cup Rookie of the Year, qualified seventh for Sunday's race and participated in both rounds of practice Saturday.
