Larry Bird hopes Russell Westbook 'wins 10 MVPs in a row'

The Hall of Famer and Pacers executive had some huge praise for the Thunder's superstar point guard.

Oklahoma City Thunder guard Russell Westbrook might win his first NBA MVP Award this season and has earned a ton of new fans in the process. One of them is Hall of Famer and current Pacers President Larry Bird.

Speaking with ESPN.com as part of an interview published Wednesday, Bird praised the Thunder guard for weathering various injuries to become one of the game's special players.

"Here's a young man that has had serious injuries -- bad knee injuries throughout his career -- yet every time he walks on the court, you know you're going to get 100 percent from him," Bird said. "He attacks, he's fearless and he plays the way it should be played, so I'm all for him. I hope he wins 10 MVPs in a row. I just love players that compete on a nightly basis and really take the challenge to their opponents."

Westbrook is known for his intensity, something that Bird and other former players love. That wasn't always the case, though, so Bird's praise shows how much Westbrook's reputation has grown with Kevin Durant out of the lineup. The point guard was often viewed as the second fiddle to KD during his rise to stardom, but the past few months have shown that Westbrook is indeed a major superstar in his own right.

He's not winning 10 MVPs in a row, but for now Westbrook would probably settle for at least one.
