Anaheim could pass an important season milestone with a win in New York on Sunday.
A light schedule in the NHL Sunday is nevertheless packed with meaningful games for teams in both conferences.
While it might seem like the St. Louis Blues have nothing left to play for until the playoffs, they have a chance to further solidify their hold on the Central Division crown when they visit the Detroit Red Wings. With Nashville winning on Saturday as the Blues got blown out by the Wild, it behooves St. Louis to right the ship in Detroit. For the Red Wings, a win on Sunday is key to them avoiding slipping into the mess that is the race for the final wild card spots.
Speaking of, the Boston Bruins find themselves in a precarious position after a shootout loss in Florida on Saturday. The Bruins are just one point away from conceding their playoff spot to the Ottawa Senators, but they're in danger of giving up even more ground when they visit the Tampa Bay Lightning on Sunday. As one of the Eastern Conference's best teams, the Lightning stand a good chance of further denting the Bruins' already shaky playoff hopes.
No such fear exists for the Anaheim Ducks and New York Rangers, who will face off in Madison Square Garden on Sunday evening. Both squads have their playoff tickets booked, and the Ducks have a chance to become the NHL's first team to reach 100 points this season.
At the other end of that spectrum sit the Arizona Coyotes, who host the Vancouver Canucks with a mere 50 points to their name. Considering the Canucks are fighting for playoff position and the Coyotes have a shot at drafting Jack Eichel or Connor McDavid, it's probably in the best interests of both teams if the Coyotes lose again on Sunday.
