NHL schedule 2015: Stars, Flames continue desperate playoff chase

The Flames will try to put even more distance between them and the Stars.

If you didn't expect the attention of the entire NHL to be focused on Calgary and Dallas in late March, then surprise! That's exactly what will happen on Friday.

Dallas and Calgary will both attempt to keep their playoff hopes from growing any dimmer when they play on Friday. The Stars' predicament at this point is perilous. They sit eight points back of Winnipeg for the second wild card spot in the Western Conference with just nine games remaining. There's not much hope there, unless the Stars manufacture it themselves.

That's exactly what they've done, winning eight of their last eleven games to stave off elimination for about two weeks now. They play in Edmonton on Friday, a prime chance to make up even more ground after the Jets' win on Thursday.

But there's still one team between them and Winnipeg. Calgary's position is much more enviable than the Stars', but it's just as stressful. The Flames are in ninth place, three points back of the Jets. With the Kings winning at a ridiculous pace, the Flames will need every point they can muster to sneak in. Getting that against the red-hot Wild won't be easy.
