Two hot teams clash as No. 7 Wichita State faces No. 3 Notre Dame in a Thursday Sweet 16 matchup.
The No. 3 Notre Dame Fighting Irish are 0-8 ATS in their last eight NCAA Tournament games. The Fighting Irish will need to turn that around to advance into the Elite Eight as an underdog this Thursday against the No. 7 Wichita State Shockers at Quickens Loan Arena.
Notre Dame is a 1-point underdog on Thursday according to sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. This will be an offense vs. defense matchup as Notre Dame's 12th-ranked offense averaging 78.8 points per game will try to solve Wichita State's sixth-ranked defense which allows only 56.7 points per game.
The Fighting Irish entered the postseason on a 5-0 SU and ATS run after running red hot through the ACC Tournament en route to a conference title. The wins haven't come quite as easily in March Madness as the team scratched out a 69-65 win over No. 14 Northeastern and then needed overtime to top Butler 67-64 in the Round of 32. No. 3 seeds are 0-2 SU and ATS in their last two games against No. 7 seeds.
In the battle for the state of Kansas on Sunday, Wichita State was clearly the better team. The Shockers dominated Kansas on both sides of the court to score a 78-65 win. Wichita State is 20-2 SU and 12-9-1 ATS over their last 22 games since December 31. The Shockers are 7-2 ATS over their last nine March Madness games and 14-3 ATS over their last 17 games as a favorite of three points or less.
The OVER is 7-3 in Wichita State's last 10 games while the UNDER is 6-2 over Notre Dame's last eight games according to the OddsShark College Basketball Database. Thursday's total is set at 137 points at the sportsbooks.
Wichita State came into this tournament with something to prove after being bounced in the Round of 32 by Kentucky last year, and the Shockers look the part of contender after dominating Kansas on Sunday. Notre Dame hasn't played its best basketball in the tournament yet but has still advanced to the Sweet 16. This should be one of the round's best matchups.
