Randall Cobb signs 4-year, $40 million with Packers, per report

Free agent wide receiver Randall Cobb will return to the Green Bay Packers, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. Cobb will return on a reported four-year, $40 million deal.

Cobb was part of a strong class of free agent receivers, joining prized players such as Demaryius Thomas and Dez Bryant. Despite that, he didn't even lead his team in receiving this past season. The Packers , one of the most prolific passing teams in the league, were led by Jordy Nelson. He put up 1,519 yards and 13 touchdowns receiving, while Cobb managed 1,287 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Cobb had the 11th-most receiving yardage in the league this past season (Nelson came in fourth). The Packers prioritized Nelson over Cobb this past offseason, giving Nelson a multi-year extension. Both were very important to an offense led by quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

There were some concerns with Cobb after he only managed to play in six games in 2013, but he played a full season in 2014. It was also his best season by a wide margin. He only saw 31 targets after being made a second-round pick in 2011, and only had 433 yards in six games in 2013. He showed flashes of strong play in 2012, when he finished just shy of 1,000 yards during the regular season, but he produced like a No. 1 receiver in 2014.
