Why are so many NBA stars getting hurt these days? We try to find answers on this week's podcast.
Remember when star players used to stay healthy the whole year? OK, that probably never happened, but recent history has seemed especially cruel. Here's a list of key players that have missed significant time this year.
Kevin Durant. Anthony Davis. LeBron James. Russell Westbrook. Kobe Bryant. Carmelo Anthony. Dwight Howard. Paul George. Blake Griffin. Kawhi Leonard. DeMar DeRozan. Dwyane Wade. Bradley Beal. Rajon Rondo. Chris Bosh (special case, of course). Brandon Jennings. Jabari Parker. Jrue Holiday. Kemba Walker. Julius Randle. Eric Gordon. Anderson Varejao. Ricky Rubio. Tiago Splitter.
Now, we can add Derrick Rose, Jimmy Butler and Wesley Matthews to that list. Many of those were freak injuries, to be fair, but that's a damn long list of top players.
That's the lead topic of this week's Limited Upside podcast. Is the season too long? Does the problem run far deeper than the NBA? Does this change how we view players' basketball primes?
Other topics include:
- Imagining NBA coaches in other professions, which is just an excuse to think about Stan Van Gundy as a Drivers Ed instructor.
- Why hasn't Rajon Rondo fit well in Dallas?
- Mike isn't sold on the Rockets. What doesn't he like about them?
- How nuts has Russell Westbrook been?
- Nerlens Noel may actually be really good. Who knew?
Also, listen to the end for a super bold prediction. We're putting this whole section in bold because of this super bold prediction.
