NHL Tuesday: Sharks battle Jets for wild-card race survival

The Sharks visit Winnipeg as both squads fight to stay in the playoff race.

If there's a single hit this season in the NHL that managed to toe the line between reckless and just downright impressive, it's Daniel Paille's hit on a Buffalo Sabres rookie on Tuesday.

The hit came in the first period after the Boston Bruins had taken a 1-0 lead. Sabres center Philip Varone began a quick rush up the ice to the Bruins' net and managed to set up a pretty decent scoring chance. But he didn't get the puck away before Paille absolutely crushed him.

Now, you could argue the principle point of contact was Varone's head. And Varone did leave the Sabres bench afterwards to get looked at before returning. It was certainly a risky play, but an impressive check nonetheless.
