Boston Red Sox vs. New York Yankees series betting preview, matchup odds

The Boston Red Sox vs. New York Yankees rivalry continues this weekend when the Yankees host the Red Sox.

The New York Yankees are 6-2 over their last eight games against the Boston Red Sox. The two teams will continue their heated rivalry in their first series of 2015 starting this Friday night at Yankee Stadium.

Friday's game between the Red Sox and the Yankees is going off as a pick 'em according to sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. Boston sends Wade Miley to the mound against New York's Nathan Eovaldi on Friday.

Despite having a down year in 2014 during Derek Jeter's retirement tour, the Yankees still managed to stay in the hunt for a playoff spot for most of the year, before eventually falling behind and ending up with an 84-78 record.

New York was riddled with injuries last season, but if the club can stay healthy this year it could end up being one of the surprise teams in the American League, currently going off at 16/1 on the odds to win the World Series.

Perhaps the biggest question mark for the Yankees this year is Alex Rodriguez, who returns to action after missing the entire 2014 season due to suspension.

The Red Sox had a disappointing season last year going just 71-91 in 2014 after winning the World Series in 2013. The Red Sox retooled their offense this offseason, adding some big bats like Hanley Ramirez and Pablo Sandoval to an already solid offensive core.

That offense was on full display in the team's season opener against the Philadelphia Phillies as the Red Sox won 8-0 fueled by a Hanley Ramirez grand slam.

The OVER is 6-2 in the last eight games between Boston and New York. Friday night's total for the Red Sox vs. Yankees betting matchup is set at 7.5 runs at the sportsbooks.

Saturday's projected starters are Steven Wright for Boston and Adam Warren for New York and Sunday's projected starters are staff aces Clay Buchholz and Masahiro Tanaka. These two teams come into every season looking to win the World Series and beat up their hated rival, and they'll get their first shot at the latter this weekend.
