Phil Mickelson climbs Masters leaderboard after this laser fairway wood for eagle

As good a fairway wood as you'll see at Augusta has Phil Mickelson off a strong start at the Masters.

Phil Mickelson has been a bad golfer since his 2013 Open Championship win. He made a run at last year's PGA Championship, but Phil's quick to tell you he's been "terrible" for the past 15 months and did so again this week.

After missing the Masters cut last year for the first time since 1997, Mickelson looks solid and comfortable again at Augusta. He picked up two birdies in his first three holes and then added an eagle on the par-5 8th. It was nearly an albatross, as Phil hit a rocket from 262 yards out in the fairway to just a foot from the cup. A tap-in eagle is always a nice way to pick up two strokes and wrap up your opening nine (because this is Phil, of course there were two bogeys mixed in).

It can go south for Phil at any moment these days, but that fairway wood was as pure a shot as you'll see this week.

He's currently tied for 6th at 2-under.
