It's a good thing it missed, because it was illegal.
It's a good thing this game-tying Stephen Curry attempt in the Warriors' 103-100 loss to the Pelicans didn't go in, because the referees would have a lot of explaining to do if it did. This should have been called a travel on Curry because he can't be the first one to touch the ball after whatever he tried to do against Dante Cunningham. From Rule 8, Section XIII(f) of the NBA rulebook:
A player who attempts a field goal may not be the first to touch the ball if it fails to touch the backboard, basket ring or another player.
Curry's initial fling counts as a shot attempt, and unless we somehow missed Leandro Barbosa grazing the ball, Curry was the first to touch it. The shot shouldn't have counted.
Then again, the Warriors were victims of some odd calls down the stretch, too. Tyreke Evans appeared to trip over his own feet with the game tied, but Andre Iguodala was called for the foul. You, of course, could also argue that Cunningham should have been called for a three-shot foul, though that logic is more specious.
Regardless, it's a good thing Curry missed and it didn't matter. Those officials dodged a big break considering the playoff implications.
Two huge games tipping at 8. OKC-SA on TNT and New Orleans-Golden State on League Pass. OKC has a 0.5 game edge for 8th, NOP has tiebreaker
