The top 300 players in the 2015 NFL Draft

This year's draft doesn't feature a singularly elite player, but Southern California's Leonard Williams is close to it. Quarterbacks Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota aren't far behind.

When talking about the NFL Draft, there are plenty of silly, overused words. When you're talking draft, it's like speaking a foreign language. What the heck is a "twitchy" athlete anyway? It's almost like you need a special dictionary just to keep up.

There is no more hollowed and hyperbolic draft word than elite. It's a word reserved for a select few players. Last year, for instance, defensive end Jadeveon Clowney was considered an elite prospect. In 2012, the honors went to quarterback Andrew Luck. In 2011, at least for me, it was wide receiver A.J. Green and cornerback Patrick Peterson. Perhaps the most elite of elite prospects this decade was Ndamukong Suh in 2010. At a time when we are reckless with our plaudits, using the word elite is as rare as the players who get the label.

In the 2015 NFL Draft, there isn't an elite player.

The closest player to elite is Southern California defensive lineman Leonard Williams. He's the draft's top player even though he won't be the first player picked. Williams comes just short of the elite status because he has some deficiencies as a pass rusher.

Just because there isn't a singularly elite player in the draft doesn't mean this is a poor class overall. In fact, the 2015 class is quite deep with talent through the first two rounds. This year the draft is heavy on pass rushers, running backs and cornerbacks. For the second consecutive year it's also a draft rich in wide receivers.

If drafts are judged by the quality of the quarterbacks in it, this isn't a good year. Jameis Winston of Florida State and Marcus Mariota of Oregon are top five talents. After them, it's not good. Brett Hundley of UCLA is the only other quarterback rated in the top 100 players, and he doesn't register on the board until No. 77. That's not a predictor of where Hundley will go, however. At a premium position, a player like Hundley will go much higher than he's rated.

The top 300 below isn't a projection of where player is going to get picked. Instead, it's a combination of how good a player is right now and how good they have the potential to be in the NFL. While there may not be an elite player in this year's draft, there sure are plenty of good ones.
