Ermon Lane injury: Florida State wide receiver leaves Rose Bowl after big hit

FSU loses a wideout late in the first half.

Florida State freshman wide receiver Ermon Lane left the Rose Bowl late in the first half after taking a vicious hit. After catching a pass from Jameis Winston, Lane turned upfield and ran for a first down before being knocked down. He came back to his feet for the next play, but looked wobbly and went back down before the next snap. He did not return to the field in the first half.

Lane's second-quarter reception was his first of the game and twelfth of the season. He had not caught a pass since a November 15 game at Miami. Lane has 262 yards receiving on the season, with one touchdown. The former Florida Gators commit was one of the top receiver recruits in the country last year. Even though his production has not been exceptional, Lane is crucial to Florida State's offense.

At the end of the first half, Oregon leads Florida State 18-13 in the first College Football Playoff semifinal.

Mark Dantonio, Pat Narduzzi get emotional after last game together

Longtime Michigan State defensive coordinator Pat Narduzzi is leaving Mark Dantonio's staff to be Pitt's next head coach. After the Spartans' incredible comeback Cotton Bowl win, the longtime colleagues shared a moment.

A hell of a game to cap a hell of a career together. Narduzzi has been on Dantonio's staff since he came to MSU in 2007, and the pair worked together at Cincinnati beforehand.

Rose Bowl refs take Oregon TD off board for meaningless review

It didn't end up mattering, but the refs made a poor officiating blunder.

Charles Nelson did not score for Oregon here.

However, Oregon got up to the line of scrimmage quickly and snapped the ball, with Royce Freeman diving over the line for an apparent touchdown.

Then refs hopped on the mic to say that the touchdown actually hadn't happened. They were going to review Nelson's dive to the end zone, which was not a touchdown:

whee

This was pretty poor officiating by the refs. It's okay when they quickly swoop in to review plays to make sure they get the right call, but this wasn't a case of that. The refs essentially penalized Oregon for the fact that they didn't act quickly enough.

Oregon scored two plays later, so this didn't matter, but it was still bad officiating.

Nick O'Leary injury a potential problem for Florida State

The tight end was hurt during warmups.

Florida State's All-American tight end Nick O'Leary was injured during warmups of the Rose Bowl, and Jimbo Fisher said that he "tweaked" his hamstring but would give it a go against the Ducks. He started the game, but is still clearly hampered by the injury.

O'Leary did have a nice block to get Florida State a first down, but is still struggling with his hamstring.

Might as well stop doing flyovers, as there will never be a better one than this.
