North Carolina and Notre Dame upset the ACC favorites in the semifinals and will play for the ACC championship on Saturday night.
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish improved to 4-0 SU and ATS over their last four games by pulling off a surprising upset over Duke on Friday. The Irish will now take on the North Carolina Tar Heels in the ACC Championship Game on Saturday night at the Greensboro Coliseum.
Both of these teams have heated up at the right time, setting the stage for a very interesting and unexpected title game.
Duke had won each of its previous 12 games heading into the semifinals against Notre Dame as an 8.5-point favorite at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. However, it was Notre Dame that dominated the game from the start, taking an 18-5 lead out of the gate and holding on for a 74-64 victory.
The Fighting Irish have been playing great basketball of late with a 6-1 SU and ATS record over their last seven games that include upset wins over both Duke and Louisville. Win or lose in the title game, Notre Dame has established itself as a threat heading into the NCAA Tournament.
UNC's task in the semifinals wasn't much easier than Notre Dame's, going up against the best defensive team in the country in the Virginia Cavaliers. But against a defense that allowed only 50 points per game, UNC put up 71 to pick up a 71-67 victory as a 3.5-point underdog. North Carolina is 5-1 SU and ATS over its last six games with a 3-0 SU and ATS mark over its last three outings.
Each of the last three games between these two teams has gone UNDER the posted total according to the OddsShark College Basketball Database. Notre Dame holds the ATS edge at 2-1 while North Carolina is 2-1 SU in those three games.
After spending most of the season in the shadows of Virginia and Duke in the ACC, the Fighting Irish and Tar Heels have earned their chance to shine this Saturday. Both teams are playing well heading into March Madness and the winner of this one will have a ton of momentum moving forward.
