Miami and Stanford will meet in the NIT title game.
The NIT will come to a close on Thursday as Miami and Stanford play for the title. They advanced to the championship game after winning semifinal contests at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday.
The shorthanded Hurricanes showed grit coming back on a well-coached Temple squad after trailing at halftime. To make it more impressive, Miami pulled off the comeback and advanced to the final playing without star guard Angel Rodriguez. Although Miami has won seven of its last eight games, the wins haven't come easy. Three of the Hurricanes four wins in the NIT have been by four points or less. That includes back-to-back games where Miami survived 63-61 against Richmond then 60-57 against Temple.
The next test will come against Stanford. The Cardinal are led by their all-time leading scorer Chasson Randle. Randle scored 24 points in the semifinal against Old Dominion as Stanford came away with a 67-60 win. He's scored at least 16 points in all four NIT games and is averaging 23.3 points per game in the tournament. With Anthony Brown and Stefan Nastic aiding Randle, the Cardinal will pose a formidable challenge for Miami.
The teams will be back at Madison Square Garden for the championship game with tip scheduled for 9 p.m. ET.
